The winter months of June to September offer larger swells. We host our Surf-themed retreats in June and September, for a mix of those fabulous swells and slightly warmer temperatures as spring approaches.
But surfing in Cape Town is great year-round, with smaller, consistent waves outside of peak swell season that are perfect for beginners and those looking for a more relaxed surf experience. No matter when you visit, Cape Co-living is ready to welcome you.

No, there are beginner-friendly surfing spots and lessons to learn how to surf.
Pack as you normally would for any other trip to Cape Town: Prepare for all conditions, layers are important, jackets, windbreakers, etc. For a surf-based stay, you’d want to bring a wetsuit, thick enough for Cape Town’s freezing waters, a rash vest, reef-safe sunscreen, and surf wax. You can rent surfboards or any other surf-related items if you wish.
Cape Co-living does not provide surfing equipment, but there are places that sell and rent everything you need in and around popular surf spots.
